The following is a list of current or completed projects undertaken by vSURF.  Included is a short description.  If you would like to learn more about any of the projects follow the links to their own project pages. 

 

Note: Projects may not be in chronological order.  Also note that many may reference the former name of vSURF, which was vDUSEL prior to July 2011.

HomeStake CORE : The CORE project develops a 3D Immersive Environment of the HOMESTAKE Mine and surroundings.  It allows for rapid development based on the CORE.

Cosmic Ray Detector Immersive Simulation :  The Cosmic Ray Detector Immersive Simulation (CoRDIS) will focus on developing student understanding of the nature of science and scientific research.  Students will develop a research question, an experimental design, and carry out the experiment to its logical conclusion based on data obtained.

Gov Video Project : These High Definition Video clips were developed to support the creation of the Video Documentary "Deep Science" that aired on South Dakota Public Television on July 5th, 2010.

vDUSEL Symposium : One the first major projects of vSURF was the holding of a national Symposium focused on Online Education and Gaming. It was sponsored by the South Dakota Board of Regents.

Scott's Ride to vSURF : A wonderful video that takes you on a historical ride along a drift highlighting the timeline of the road towards an underground lab at HOMESTAKE.  A MUST SEE!!!!

 

Workshop(s) : A mission for vSURF is to complement Sanford Center for Science Education (SCSE) workshops with online materials and other distance support.
