In January 2009, Bill Harlen, the Information Director for the Sanford Underground Laboratory at Homestake asked the vSURF team if they would be willing to support the development of a documentary entitled "Deep Science" with some High Definition video clips. There was a very short timeframe as the video was to be shown at the Internet II conference being held in April. Though not in the area of Immersive Environments, the vSURF team agreed and assembled a group of Dakota State University (DSU) Graphical Arts and Design undergraduate students to create these video clips. All or parts of many of the HD clips found their way into the resulting documentary video. Subsequently, this video was reworked into a half-hour documentary shown on Television (see below). Several of the original clips remained but some were, given the longer time frame, reworked by Matt Kapust and others at HOMESTAKE. It should be said that without Matt's enormous personal efforts this project would not have come about. The vSURF team was happy to help with this project and very proud of the word done by our developers under very severe timelines.
The following are clips (that were created by the vSURF development
team at Dakota State University (DSU). The actual video clips were
created in HD uncompressed format so that they could be used by the
video editors when creating the Governor Rounds Homestake video.
This video was eventually shown as a 1/2- Hours documentary on South
Dakota Public Television.
